gemstones on the market today that have undergone some form of treatment
to enhance or change its color. To keep your fine
jewelry looking at its best in between the visits to the jeweler, clean your
jewelry once every two weeks
or more. Diamonds, for example, have a way
of attracting oils from your skin, soap and lotions like a magnet,
and with that they collect dust and lint. The noble metals used in
jewelry become covered with a film imparting a dull appearance.
Always apply your cologne, perfume or hair spray before
you put your jewelry on. Follow the rule:

Cleaning
Solution
Mix
approximately 50 ml of gentle dish washing liquid for
cleaning (for transparent crystalline gems) or 50 ml of household ammonia, Mr. Clean, Windex
or Fantastic (for diamonds,
rubies, sapphires) and 200 ml of water. Stir well. Heat the solution
slightly in
the microwave or use an old pot for a stove top method to heat
the solution, and then remove it from the heat source. Pour a small amount into your bowl and place your
jewelry
(silver or gold) into solution and let them sit for about five
minutes. Brush the articles gently. Use another bowl of warm water to
rinse away the cleaning solution. Rinse well, as any cleaning
residue may irritate your skin. Use a soft lint free cloth to pat
it dry.
